Subaru Driveshaft Technology
Today’s Subaru vehicles have come a long way from the old, low-powered Subarus of a decade or so ago. With new advancements in engine technology and all-wheel drive design, most new Subaru vehicles produce tremendous amounts of horsepower! This advance in technology also translates to an extreme stress on the two-piece design Subaru Driveshaft, and failure is very common.
Most rear-drive Subaru drive shaft consists of a two-piece shaft which has a center support, two U joints and a CV in the center. The driveshaft comes originally with a staked-in U-joint which is not replaceable by regular means. Our driveshafts are converted from a CV in the center to a replaceable U joint design that solves lots of vibration issues. The rest of the joints use replaceable U joints.
Subaru Driveshaft Problems
Diagnosing a Driveshaft problem is not simple. In most cases the problem can’t be duplicated when the vehicle is on a hoist, because there is no load on the wheels. The most common Subaru drive shaft problem is a vibration at speeds between 30-60 miles per hour. Noise from the center support bearing is also common. Taking your vehicle to a qualified Subaru technician to diagnose a driveshaft failure is always a good idea.
