Photo of Mercedes S500 4Matic Driveshaft Mercedes Benz introduced the S500 4Matic in 2003 as an AWD sport luxury passenger car. It employed an all-wheel drive drivetrain system to give it the off road advantage and the on road stability that owners of larger four wheel drive vehicles are accustom too. To achieve that, Mercedes installed 4 axles and two drive shafts on this W220 chassis, a rear two-piece driveshaft and a short front drive shaft.

Failure of the front drive shaft is common for the S500 4Matic. A vibration felt throughout the vehicle during speeds of over 30 mph and during takeoff is very common. The front driveshaft U joints will also show signs of rust when they are extremely bad. Quality S500 Drive shaft replacement is important for the correct function of this sport luxury vehicle.

Mercedes Benz S500 4Matic Driveshaft Design

The front driveshaft is a straight tubular shaft with a U-Joint mounted on each end and a slip yoke in the middle for automatic length adjustment during installation.

The rear driveshaft is a 2-piece shaft that connects the transmission to the rear differential. It incorporates a center support in the middle with a slip yoke and a single U-Joint. There are also two Flex discs that connect to the rear and to the front of the driveline there by connecting it to the transmission and differential.

We have made the following improvements on our S500 4Matic front driveshaft to overcome the weak original design:

On the rear driveshaft we offer both new and remanufactured drivelines where all moving components are replaced with quality heavy duty parts.

Our S500 propeller shaft is made using state of the art machinery, and it is an OEM Fitment product. All of our driveshafts are speed balanced at 3500 RPM, they and are built to last and perform, to give you long lasting operation and vibration free product.
