The E500 4Matic was first introduced in 2004 with the new look of the 211 chassis. This all-wheel drive passenger car enjoyed a powerful dual overhead cam 5.0L engine with an AWD drivetrain system. That gave this sport luxury sedan the off road advantage and the on road stability that owners of four wheel drive vehicles enjoy. To achieve that, Mercedes installed 2 drive shafts, one short for the front and one long for the rear. The vehicle was offered both as a Sedan and Wagon.
The front drive shaft is more likely to fail on the E500 4Matic. A vibration during acceleration and speeds of over 30 mph is very common. The front driveshaft U joints will also show signs of rust when they are extremely bad. High quality E500 Drive shaft replacement is important for the function of this vehicle.

Mercedes Benz E500 4Matic Driveshaft Design
Rear Drive Shaft
The rear 2-piece driveshaft connects the transmission to the rear differential and incorporates a center support in the middle with a slip yoke and a single U-Joint. There are also two Flex discs in the rear and front of the shaft that connects this driveshaft to the differential and transmission.
Front Drive Shaft
The front driveshaft is a straight tubular shaft with a single U-Joint mounted on each end and a slip yoke in the middle. This provides easy installation of the shaft and correct adjustment of length.
For our E500 4Matic front driveshaft we made the following improvements and changes over the weak original design:
- Redesign of the front and rear flanges to accommodate U joints that are replaceable, unlike the original which are not. This gives you the advantage of being able to replace just the joint, and not the whole driveline itself, in case of a failure.
- The slip yoke has larger wider splines to handle more stress and eliminate play. This feature is a propriety design for our front drive shaft.
Our E500 propeller shaft is made using state of the art machinery, and it is an OEM Fitment product. All our driveshafts are speed balanced at 3500 RPM and are built to last and perform. This gives you long-lasting operation and a vibration-free product.
All replacement parts, such as U-joints, center support bearing and front nose bushing, are available from us at a low cost. Replacing these parts is something you may want to consider in case of a future breakdown after the warranty ends, and it is something the competition may not be able to help you with.
