Today’s RangeRover vehicles have come a long way from the old, low-powered RangeRovers of a decade or so ago. With new advancements in engine technology, most new RangeRover vehicles produce tremendous amounts of horsepower! This advance in technology also translates to an extreme stress on the two-piece design RangeRover Driveshaft design, and failure is common.
Most rear-drive RangeRover drive shaft consist of a two-piece shaft which has a center support, U joints and CV joint. Some RangeRover models have a front driveshaft as well. The driveshaft comes originally with a staked-in U-joint which is not replaceable by regular means.
Driveshaft Problems
Diagnosing a Driveshaft problem is not simple. In most cases the problem can’t be duplicated when the vehicle is on a hoist, because there is no load on the wheels. The most common RangeRover drive shaft problem is a vibration at speeds between 30-60 miles per hour. Noise from the center support bearing is also common. Taking your vehicle to a qualified Audi technician to diagnose a driveshaft failure is always a good idea.
