Photo of BMW X3 Driveshaft The BMW X3 is designed with an all-wheel drive drivetrain system to give it the off road advantage and the on road stability that owners of larger SUVs enjoy. To achieve that performance, BMW installed two driveshafts and four axles on this vehicle. There is a rear two-piece driveshaft from the transmission to the rear differential that allows for variations in the alignment and distance between the driving and driven components. There is also a front one-piece drive shaft that connects the transfer case to the front differential.

Failure of the front drive shaft U joints and the rear propeller shaft center support bearing and joints is common for the X3. A vibration during speeds of over 40 mph is very common. The front driveshaft U joints will also show signs of reddish rust when they are extremely bad. High quality Drive shaft replacement is important for the correct function of the vehicle.

BMW X3 Driveshaft Design

There are two driveshafts on this vehicle. There is a rear 2-piece driveshaft that incorporates a center support in the middle and two U-Joints mounted in the rear and in the middle. A flex joint connects this driveshaft to the transmission. There is also a front driveshaft that is a straight tubular shaft with a U-Joint mounted on each end. On early models there are flanges on each end, and on later models there is a rear splined yoke that goes into the transfer case.

Our X3 driveshaft is made by state of the art machinery and with heavy duty materials. It is an OEM Fitment and is built to last. The center support bearing is improved for long lasting operation and vibration free design. The front driveshaft is redesigned to accommodate replaceable U joints. This gives you the advantage of being able to replace just the joint, and not the whole driveline itself, in case of a failure.

Replacement Parts

All replacement parts, such as U-joints and the center support bearing, are available from us at a low cost. Replacing these parts is something you may want to consider in case of a future breakdown after the warranty ends, and it is something the competition may not be able to help you with.
